I am so pleased to present you with the 30th anniversary edition of the Emmanuel College Connection!

While some of you have been on the mailing list for our humble mag since the very beginning, many of you may have only been receiving it for the past few years, and may not realise how long it has been fostering connection for alumni. For me it has been interesting to learn, that while it has certainly evolved, it’s core role has remained the same – recognising our people, updating you on school happenings and fostering reconnection events.

Speaking of recognising our people, we have been privileged to have some of our alumni at school to speak to students to broaden their understanding of topics little and big. Thank you goes to:

  • Inspiring Alumni, Inala Cooper (Dodson) of the Class of 1995 who during Reconciliation Week presented to students inviting them to reflect on the result of the referendum and how Now More Than Ever we need to take an active role in supporting a just and equitable future for all Australians.
  • Isobel Stewart of the Class of 2011, who spoke in a series of RE classes about life as a sister with the Canberra-based order - Missionaries of God’s Love.
  • Inspiring Alumni, Anthony Leddin of the Class of 1994, who spoke to senior classes earlier this term about his program Plant Breeders Without Boarders and how the simple act of knowledge sharing is helping to alleviate poverty in some on the world’s most impoverished communities.
  • Tom Howard of the Class of 2018 who is empowering our senior students to spread kindness with his engaging new initiative – Move Cards.

Finally, if you know of an alumni that is younger than 35, that is doing amazing things in any area, I encourage you to make a nomination for Young Alumni Achiever recognition. Their stories help us to encourage today’s Emmanuel students to follow their own path.

Enjoy!
