After 30+ years of watching my children grow up at Emmanuel College and working at Emmanuel, I’m proud to say I am giving it a go and being the chair of the committee to help build this opportunity for students; the Edmund Rice Centre.

Emmanuel College and the memories I share here are close to my heart. Even though I recently retired from Emmanuel College after many good years here, it made sense to throw my hat in the ring and help spread the word about this new learning facility and the 9@RICE program.

I may not know everyone in the Emmanuel College community, but I can confidently say that collectively we all share the motivation of wanting to see these students get the best possible opportunities we can give them.

I think for me, knowing what the Edmund Rice Centre will offer the students of our community and the memories they will make, that is something I know I can see the worthiness in. I've seen firsthand the incredible impact that this school and its curriculum can have on students.

Year 9 is a year level close to my heart as I have taught lots of classes at this level, been year 9 coordinator and junior school coordinator. Consequently, I know the importance this year level plays in a student’s development which means we have to do it right.

I've seen my children grow up in this school, and that's why I'm so proud to be a part of this fundraising effort. But it's not just about pride. It's about making a real difference in the lives of young people. I’m a big believer in supporting a wonderful opportunity, so it’s worth it in my books.

But here's the thing: through all those changes, one thing has remained constant - the strong sense of community that Emmanuel College fosters. I truly believe the Edmund Rice Centre will add to that sense of community, and the community in turn will support it.

So if you're looking for a way to give back, to make a real difference in the lives of young people, consider donating to help build the Edmund Rice Centre. Please know that your support makes an impact and these students, our future, are so privileged having your help.

My life, possibly like a lot of yourselves, has been interwoven with Emmanuel College. My work, my children, my friends, the community, all these aspects that are important to me have been supported through Emmanuel College as it has evolved and developed over the years.
